2017年7月。在排名战中，前崎学九段（安田显）突然陷入了思考停止的状态。无法集中于盘面，脑海中萦绕着死亡的印象。那时象棋界遇到了丑闻。在象棋联盟担任宣传的前崎忙于应对，还担任了电影的监修。在这期间，他每天都奔赴盘面，过着没有休息的日子，患上了抑郁症。前崎在精神科医生的哥哥章（高桥克实）推荐的医院住院。负责医生下令长期休养和当前禁止下棋。将棋极度集中力，只不过是治疗的障碍。身为围棋专业棋手的妻子·茧（内田有纪饰），相信自己能作为同一个赌徒回归，与女儿·春香（南沙良饰）一起，拼命支持着前崎。壮烈的病魔斗争之后，精神恢复了的前崎出院了。另一方面，茧也兼做前崎的康复训练，准备开设象棋围棋教室。开放之日，前崎也被邀请，举行了年轻棋手的对局仪式。看到那个的前崎受到了冲击。完全是异世界的游戏，因为抑郁症而完全无法理解将棋规则。。汤姆（布鲁斯·威利斯 Bruce Willis 饰）出生于警察世家，他与父亲文森特（约翰·玛哈尼 John Mahoney 饰）不仅同为警察，两人还经常作为搭档一同执行任务。在一次意外中，文森特不幸身亡，父亲的死让汤姆感到了深深的愧疚，他陷入了自责和悲伤中无法自拔。 一起连环恶性凶杀案件的发生让整个匹兹堡陷入了恐慌之中，通过种种线索的调查，汤姆坚持认为凶手系警方人士，汤姆因此而遭到了业内的排挤和降职。时隔两年，类似的凶杀案再度发生，对案件依旧耿耿于怀的汤姆决定独自调查此事。随着调查的深入，汤姆惊讶的发现凶手竟然和父亲的死有着千丝万缕的联系，而汤姆的一举一动，似乎都在凶手的掌控之中。。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
