"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。苏北不顾父母反对，远嫁相恋两年的陈海并放弃彩礼。婚后婆婆同住，表面亲切却常刁难、挑拨，苏北从隐忍到反击，婆媳关系紧张。陈母后明白，敌意源于怕儿子被 “夺走”。最终她决定回老家，此时苏北怀孕，一家人达成理解与和解。。
