第二次世界大战初期，德国法西斯发动了侵波战争，战火弥漫了整个波兰大地，人民生活在水深火热之中，西部地区先后被德军占领。波兰资产阶级政府派军队奋起反抗，但力不胜敌，寡不敌众，军队纷纷被迫宣告解散。当时有一名少校叫做道布然斯基不愿解散，决心抗争到底。他聚集了被解散的一个团的200多名骑兵，继续和德国法西斯英勇战斗。此时，他为了躲避风险，化名为“胡巴尔”，转战于波兰东南部凯尔采地区一带，同德军展开游击战……整部影片叙述的时间跨度从1939.9.23——1940.4.30胡巴尔牺牲为止。。It's October 1914 and the war is not going well.
